Here are a few Numocore practices you can start to help heal from injury.
Nutrition
Maintain a well-balanced diet, including protein. Athletes who are building muscle and restoring tissue will have greater need of protein. This can come from a variety of sources. Plant-based sources of additional protein include lentils, tofu, edamame, beans, and hemp seeds. Eat a range of colors of fruits and vegetables to get the other nutrients you need.
Movement
Depending on the injury, you can move adjacent joints through their full range of motion. Obviously, if the joint itself has been injured, you may want to wait before doing this. Speak to your health professional. But for many injuries, including those involving the joints, you can begin light range of motion exercises. Continue to move all your unaffected joints through their full range of motion. This also promotes good blood flow, which aids in healing.
Movement of energy. Your mind is a powerful orchestrator. You can use your mind to place loving attention on the injured aspect of your body. With practice, you will begin to feel less pain the moment you start to do this. See Mind-Body-Flow Theory posts for more details.
Connection
Take time to step back and reflect.
What caused the injury?
What setting was I in?
What was my state of mind?
What was the state of my body? Was it prepared for the activity? How can I prepare it better?
If I replay the scene in my mind, how can complete the activity without the injury happening?
Can I see myself completing this activity and remaining healthy and whole?
What have I seen now that I didn't see before?
Rest
ln most cases, if you have recently injured part of the body, it will need some level of rest from its normal state of activity. This doesn't necessarily mean you cannot use that part at all, but honor the time that it takes to heal. This time can also be used for connecting with yourself more deeply.
In addition to the practices above, all of the engines of Numocore will be helpful in healing. For example, I left out breathing fully and emotional healing, but all of these and every other Numocore practice contribute to aligning the mind and body, which shifts you into a deeper state out of the fight or flight response, decreasing dysregulated inflammation and increasing healing.
