How can we all be shareholders in healthcare?
It's by realizing that healthcare is first and foremost about health, healing, and human potential. Healthcare is not merely about caring for our idea of health, but rather commitment to a higher ideal of what health might be. When we commit to that higher ideal, however it looks to us, then healthcare is about knowledge and practice. Right now, the standard of care and standard of knowledge in healthcare are dangerously low.
Even more importantly, when we commit to that higher ideal, we realize that the knowledge and practices we need are the ones that are available to us already! Nutrition, movement, connection, rest. As we activate these Four Engines, inflammation decreases, toxicity decreases, our awareness becomes subtler, and we recognize what we previously had been calling the mind-body connection as the flow of our experience. All of this facilitates healing and relative independence from formal systems while still being able to use them in a complementary role. This is what current healthcare cannot afford to do and therefore does not do.
As we realize this and develop our practice, we will heal at a depth and scale previously thought to be fantasy. We will become shareholders in our health, and the knowledge that develops within us will become the new standard for healthcare, on top of which further expertise will be developed. In this way, all of us will indeed become shareholders in a true health system.
Healing is possible because we are clear and we take action.
